Pin Tab–a Simple and Useful Tip of Google Chrome
Today, I will share a simple tip about Google Chrome, which is really useful if you open lots of tabs at the same time. Named Pin Tab, the feature of Google Chrome shrinks any tab down to only a web site’s favicon to save precious tab bar real estate—no extension required.
What is a Favicon of websites?
A favicon (short for favorites icon), also known as a website icon, shortcut icon, url icon, or bookmark icon is a 16×16, 32×32 or 64×64 pixel square icon associated with a particular website or webpage. A web designer can create such an icon and install it into a website (or webpage) by several means, and most graphical web browsers will then make use of it. Browsers that provide favicon support typically display a page’s favicon in the browser’s address bar and next to the page’s name in a list of bookmarks. Browsers that support a tabbed document interface typically show a page’s favicon next to the page’s title on the tab. (Via Wikipedia)
When enabled, Pin Tab will show only this favoicon image, and not the title of the page, and that will reduce the width of the tab, in to less than 1 Cm. If you’ve already pinned a tab, you can just drag new tabs over to the left of the window and they’ll shrink automatically. Pinned tabs aren’t permanent, but it would be really nice to have the option to choose whether or not pinned tabs will stick around between sessions.
