Firefox, a well known browser, is preparing to unveil its version for mobiles.

Jay Sullivan who was in charge of the project said that the mobile version underwent various tests and would be launched by the end of the year. He also added a user would not have to sit in the evening and work on their PC, instead he would be able to walk. In case he received some urgent documents that he had to read there would be no necessity to back home and check his e-mail, as his mobile would be equipped with Firefox mobile version.

The version is able to encrypt all the information a user receives and sends it back through the cloud. Also it can sync with the desktop version of the browser.

In case everything goes smoothly, the owners of N900 will be able to download Firefox that can be found in Nokia’s Ovi store.

Also Mozila which is considered to be the parent company of Firefox, is developing versions for Google’s Android as well as Microsoft’s Windows operating systems.

Those who have, iPhones and want to have Firefox on their desktop, they will have to wait a bit, as the company has to synchronize their desktop.

But still Opera is considered to be the most popular mobile browser at present. It is available for many mobile handsets.

Imagehosts like Imagefap, Fapomatic or Photobucket are popular places to host photos and images on. Many blogs, forums and other websites make use of these image hosts to avoid huge bandwidth and sever costs as the majority of traffic is shouldered by these services. Users on the other hand do not like image hosts that much as it can be quite strenuous and unnerving to download multiple images from them as most of these hosts want to generate pageviews for advertising reasons. This makes them place images on individual pages on their website. A user wanting to download ten images would therefor need to open ten pages to do so.

ImageHost Grabber provides a solution for several image hosting websites. The Firefox add-on is compatible out of the box with many image hosting websites provided that the user updates the so called hosts file with the latest version that is available on the developer’s website. This host file is an xml file that contains information about the various image hosts. It basically consists of regular expressions that try to identify the location of the image from the information provided on the pages where the image thumbnails are shown.

A right-click on any page will display the Image Grabber menu entry which can be used to grab all images from that website. Image Grabber will check if a rule for the image host is configured and if it is it will start downloading the images.

Users who know they way around regular expressions can also add their own image hosting websites to the hosts definition file. Everyone else might have luck by posting a request at the developer’s forum.

Image Grabber is compatible with dozens of websites including Photobucket, Facebook, Picasa, Imagefap or Blogspot. It is currently only compatible with Firefox 3.5x and not Firefox 3.6x although it can be forced to be compatible. The latest version is not available at the Mozilla Firefox website but at the developer’s website.

Google Chrome browser provides access to a feature to pin tabs in the web browser by default. Pinned tabs will be moved to the left side of the tabbar where their tab will be changed to a smaller icon that is showing only the favicon of the website in question. The benefit of this approach is that the tabs take less space in the tabbar while they can still be accessed normally by clicking on them.

Pin Tab is a new experimental Firefox add-on that brings this feature to the Firefox web browser. Yes, there have been some tab managers in the past who also provided that option, but none looked as promising as the Pin Tab extension.

Tabs can be pinned in Firefox by Ctrl-clicking them in the web browser. This will automatically shrink the tab to the size of the favicon and move it to the left side of the tabbar.

The picture above shows a tabbar with two pinned tabs on the left. A left-click on a pinned tab will open the website as usual. It is possible to change the default hotkey to pin tabs or use the right-click context menu option to do so. It is furthermore possible to pin tabs by dragging unpinned tabs to the pinned tab area with the reverse option possible as well.

The main benefit of pinning tabs up to this point should be obvious: Space. It is possible to place roughly 5-7 pinned tabs in the place of one open tab. Unlike the pinned tab option in Google Chrome the Firefox add-on comes with additional features. The pinned tabs will for instance remain pinned over browsing sessions if Firefox is configured to remember browsing sessions.

Pin Tab is an interesting add-on for the Firefox web browser. It can be useful for Firefox users who regularly work with a set of tabs that they usually have open in Firefox all the time. The Firefox add-on can be downloaded from the Mozilla Firefox website.

The latest project by Mozilla Labs is designed to help users of social networking sites make sense of the flood of messages generated by services such as Twitter, Facebook, and others, giving them an integrated place to read messages that are personal and important while editing out much of the noise that clogs e-mail inboxes today.

Here is more about the program, in a nutshell, from the developers:

When a friend’s link from YouTube or flickr arrives, your messaging client should be able to show the video or photos near or as part of the message, rather than rudely kicking you over to a separate browser tab. Notifications from computers and mailing lists should be organized for you, not clutter your Inbox or require tedious manual filter setup. It should be easy to smoothly integrate new web services into your conversation viewer entirely using open web technologies.

Raindrop will automatically separate out personal messages from those sent by mailing lists and other sources of automated alerts and communications, and users will be able to customize how they wish to group these notifications.

Instead of building yet another application to organize and prioritize communications, Mozilla’s goal with Raindrop is to help users get a handle on the messages they’re already getting, therefore making those existing channels of communication more meaningful.”We aren’t trying to invent new protocols or build new messaging systems, rather focusing on building a product that lets users get a handle on the systems we already use,” reads the post.

The current version of Raindrop is being referred to as 0.1, meaning “not yet ready for everyday use,” but the development team is looking for input from developers and users alike.

Mozilla hopes Raindrop will be customized by its users and will also become a platform for third-party products, according to the post.

More and more friends tend to hold the idea that Chrome will be a winer in the future and it is a wise choice to swtich to Chrome from Firefox. But in my opinion, if you have accustomed to using Firefox, it is difficult to switch to Chrome. Here are 5 reasons why I won’t be switching from Firefox to Google Chrome as my default browser in the foreseeable future:

Extensions- I know this is “in the works” for Google Chrome, but I can’t ditch Firefox just yet. I have a must set of extensions for every install of Firefox I ever make. I used to keep an updated list of such extensions, but I haven’t updated in a while. Maybe I should do so. But, on every install, I need AdBlock Plus, FoxyProxy, FireFTP, Firebug, Web Developer, Tab Mix Plus, Weave, NoScript and Flashblock, just to name a few. Again, I understand it’s only a matter of time with Chrome before extensions appear, and they will sand-boxed too, increasing the stability and security of the browser. However, Chrome isn’t there yet, and as such, Firefox remains my browser.

Caching- Firefox is the only browser that I know of that gets caching right. If, for any reason, my browser crashes, and I was typing an email, when I pull the browser back up, not only are my tabs restored, but the data in the tabs as well, including each tab history, and the text in any form fields that I was editing (provided I’m keeping a history of everything, as is default on a new install). I can’t even begin to tell you how valuable this feature is. Yes, the whole browser crashes with Firefox, versus single tabs with Chrome, but when Firefox comes up, my data is in tact. When I restore the tab with Chrome, form fields and text boxes that were once populated are now blank.

Cross Platform- Even though I have Google Chrome installed on my Debian and Ubuntu machines, Google Chrome is still very much a Windows application. It just hasn’t reached prime time for Mac OS X or GNU/Linux. So, unless I’m ready and willing to take the rolls with the punches, I’m stuck on Windows. Yes, Google Chrome is getting more and more usable every day on GNU/Linux, but it’s still unstable and comes with bugs.

Portable Firefox- Being a college student, I’ve come to love Portableapps.com. I can take so many applications with me on a USB stick, plug them into a Windows machine at school, and off I go. Firefox is no exception. I can have all my extensions, plugins, settings, bookmarks and so forth with me on a single USB stick. This way, I don’t have to worry about installing Firefox should it not be installed, and I don’t have to prep it installing and configuring it the way I like. So, until Chrome becomes a portable app as well, which I don’t think should take long, Firefox is here to stay.

Speed- Firefox is still a fast browser, and 3.6 is looking to up the ante even more. Tracemonkey is comparable to speed with V8 in terms of JavaScript engines, and HTML/CSS rendering is also snappy. In fact, I noticed a great improvement from 3.0 to 3.5 in terms of speed. And when browsing the sites I do from day-to-day with Firefox and Chrome, I honestly can’t tell if one is faster than the other. Yes, from a cold boot, Firefox is a second slower. Maybe two. Other than that, IMO, it’s neck and neck, and as a result, I see no reason to switch browsers if speed is a factor.

Whenever anybody from the Mozilla, the overseers of Firefox, gets to talking about iPhone apps, the geek-blooded world gets themselves all in a tizzy. As the mobile port of Firefox, otherwise known as Fennec, ticks away through the beta paces on Windows Mobile, Symbian, and Linux, iPhone owners care about only one thing: When do they get it?

In an interview earlier today Mozilla’s CEO John Lily announced that Mozilla would be on the edge of releasing an iPhone app:
“Mozilla will release an app to the iPhone App Store in the next few weeks,” Lilly said. “It’ll surprise people.”

An app? What would it be? He didn’t give any further details for the moment but it’s pretty clear that Apple would never allow Firefox on the App Store. Apple’s guidelines clearly forbid duplicating iPhone’s core functionalities.

Nowadays, Apple has already been heavily criticized for the limitations put on third party developments, and this only adds insult to injury for Apple. Further more, Mozilla needs to acquire a license from Apple allowing for Firefox running on the iPhone. Currently, Apple forbids programs that interpret code themselves without using Apple’s APIs, making it impossible for Mozilla to release Firefox browser for the iPhone. Mozilla will instead aim for more open platforms, such as Android. For whatever the reasons, Apple’s limitations on software development may be cause for greater problems down the road, as more developers are put down by these limitations.

So, it is interesting to note what kind of an application is Mozilla actually working on. While it’s quite natural for anyone to assume it might be a new browser, keeping in mind Apple’s stand on third party browsers, we can also expect a software other than a browser. It could be anything, ranging from a bookmark sync tool or a plug in for the existing Safari browser.

Nowadays, YouTube is becoming the most popular video website around the world. However, people won’t watch the videos with Adobe Flash Player. But now, I will introduce you a tool that allow you watch your favorite videos without flash.

Youtube without Flash, the popular Greasemonkey javascript which worked for Firefox and can replace the Flash Player by an embedded player by default instead of requiring the user to click the “View without Flash” link.
This Greasemonkey userscript automatically plays YouTube videos with an embedded external player (like mplayerplug-in, vlc mozilla plug-in or the totem plugin). You can configure the default video quality and it even allows you to download the videos you are currently watching.

Because there are still some issues with Adobe Flash Player and Linux, this might be a great alternative for everybody having such a problem.

You can gain more detailed information from their official website.
However, IE has lost 8.5 percentage points in the last 12 months and has dropped 2.6 points in the last three months alone.

The market share of browsers above is just for some kinds of popular browsers, but have you paid attention to all browsers (such as IE 6, Firefox 3.5, etc) ? If you have done it, you must be amazed for IE 6 browser is still dominating the market, according to Net Application.

Compared to August, IE6 has lost only 0.8% of its market share, dropping to 24.4%, which still makes it by far the most popular web browser, in front of Internet Explorer 7.0 with 19.39%, Internet Explorer 8.0 with 16.84%, Firefox 3.5 with 12.65%, and Firefox 3.0 which holds 9.62% of the browser market.

Is it amazing and surprising? If let you choose a better browser, no one will be browsing with IE 6. Unfortunately, it seems that old habits die hard and there are so many people who stick to use IE 6.
