Quality checks on a website are essential in order to protect the image of a small business. Keep in mind that most potential customers will initially see the website of a company making quality critical for favorable initial impressions. It’s much like the headline for a newspaper article where it must draw the reader’s interest to look further. A poorly-designed website might give the visitor the idea that the product or service offered by the site owner is of low quality as well. Here are a few quality checks that should be done for your newly-designed website and by doing them you will ensure that your visitors will easily get the information they need while favorably promoting your image.

Is the website designed so that it is not overloaded with graphics? Or more importantly, are your web pages not filled with flashing and animated graphics. Cute animated graphics are something from the early days of the web. They do not give a professional image to a website. Any use of them should be kept to a minimum but preferably they should not be used at all.

Does your web content have a consistent look across all pages? A high-quality website will have the same color combinations, fonts, and navigational links throughout it. Though the words will be different, the reader does not have to adjust his or her focus for each page navigated to. Consistency makes navigation easier too.

Is the design such that it is not too distracting or confusing? Designs of poor quality make it difficult for visitors to find the information they need quickly. If a visitor has to spend too much time getting the information he or she needs then the page will be quickly abandoned.

Have accessibility issues been addressed? A small business website design should not only be capable of displaying in a traditional web browser but also in hand-held mobile devices. The website should also have been designed in such a way that those with hearing and visual disabilities can access it.
